I've always said most online culture, despite its stated totally serious aims, is nothing more than an elaborate version of a cheap romance novel. The type of novel an conjugally unsatisfied woman enjoys.
This is not a criticism of romance novels - women are honest about this, having no delusions about the fact that what they're reading is a fantasy book and that there will be no BWC cowboy on his way to offer respite from their fat, balding, sportsball obsessed, beer-swilling other-half.
Yet, I notice some in these strange online sub-cultures, on being legitimately faulted for invital inaction, will say, "Well, akshually, we're just having fun, and it's not serious".
This is their retort when the potentially serious people who have figured out how unserious it is get frustrated at the lack of action on matters of civilisational suicide - as one such example.
Still, despite saying that "it's just a bit of fun", they act and "post" as if it is all deadly serious.
They tend to get very angry when you simply agree with them and their original statement - that it is definitely not important, necessary or practical, nor is it serious about what "it" says it wants but also doesn’t really want.
There's no quicker way to be referred to as a so-called "blackpiller" than to point out that young men and women of talent should not waste their time living in fantasy worlds - that they should instead clear out the psycho-physiological detritus with the method and learn new skills and ways to enact their will.
Life is short, and spending it in a virtual space is a wasted life for almost everyone who doesn’t make a tonne of money out of it.
don't be a blackpiller
Or even more absurd: "Don't counter-signal the movement that doesn't exist though with all this sinister talk of focusing on do-ing."
Becoming competent and powerful, or even much better than what you were, is extremely difficult. It takes a lot of time. It takes the heavy-handed executive function to exert control over the base reactive functions.
As a species, we have failed miserably at this requirement during our tenure. It could be said that this work is primarily concerned with fixing this shortcoming - so we don't have to endure endless cycles of Spenglerian hopelessness that results from a primitive brain that doesn't work very well and seems to have to go through the motions over and over again, except for rare occasions and entirely by accident where something worthwhile arises.
Maybe this is naive - but I refuse to accept this idea of cyclicality - if it is true, there is a good argument that we should just wipe ourselves out now and let life get on with something better.
Base reactive function is the food of online fantasy culture. It is also the bane of executive function - the science is abundantly clear on this.
Like much in modernity, these platforms are primarily mediums for facilitating a rich fantasy life, something the human species likes very much, and typically, this is required because of an overwhelming disappointment in what the akshual case is. Very often, of one's personal circumstances.
We can go through our entire lives living in fantasies. We all know this. this is not some amazing insight. It is obvious to us when we really think about our lives.
One of the interesting things you notice when you get someone on the mattress and force them to stay with themselves and their breath - is the discomfort they feel. The overweening compulsion to run away and be somewhere else. Physiologically, this shows their executive function has only a minimal capacity to exercise control over the lower, more primitive brain centres.
In these states, we are assailed by strange thoughts - better yet, a highly interactive physiological fantasies or dream states. Anyone who has done some of the work presented here would know this - how seductive the fantasies can be, in a total physiological sense - it's wrong to just say it's words or thoughts like meditators do. It's something much more powerful.
Fantasies are entirely interactive, which makes them potentially so disempowering. They are hard to break out of. Because great men and their acts, other than those borne of chance like we see in history, require the opposite. The controlled burn of imagination, coupled with vital action and movement.
There is just do-ing, and in some sense, there can be nothing else.
TALKING VS DOING. We all fall victim to not totally getting this - particularly these days when the world supercharges and sometimes even greatly rewards thinking and talking - in a word - passivity.
Some feel the nastier or edgier their words are, that this "revolutionary act" will magically remove them from the frustrating, limiting passivity they feel.
Others think passivity can be attenuated by simply making positive statements or aphorisms about triumph or victory about a state of affairs that is clearly to "their advantage now" - as if reality will conform to their childish emotional needs and beliefs about "how the world should be" or even “this is how it is now” as they stick their finger in their ears and make loud sounds so they can’t hear anyone tell them any different.
I just need to wish it so, like they're in a Harry Potter movie or something. I mean, you can't even believe it sometimes.
Some feel that passively posting about active things can override the need to do anything and that "hey, as long as someone else does it, my posts will inspire them to do it". Maybe this is true for some - but for most it is not. Even if it does convince someone, what does it make all the others? Are they tangibly different for seeing an image?
One of the main weaknesses of this species is that we are prone to rich fantasy lives where we like to convince ourselves that something is "happening" and that what is in truth passivity is some form of do-ing. Or that theorising or thinking is some form of real understanding.
And worst of all, is the tendency to think that all this can have strong causal relationship with what is probably nothing more than a chance outcome in the external world.
This is what people call magical thinking - it is like a child with a wand putting a spell on a local frog. This is okay for children. Adults…not so much.
More likely what happens: eventually, everyone gets fed up with it enough that the parasites feeding on the sheep offer a small concession. A small reprieve.
But that was us!
Raising awareness is a genuinely laughable concept - particularly to a meditator.
In the Bio-individual method, there is only one valid outlook.
"OK, who cares? So what are you doing about it?
The question we all need to ask regularly - is how willing we are to live a vital but disciplined life of action and do-ing. Putting down the phone, the endless books, dropping the pointless arguments or the TV controller and defining our very existence by do-ing?
This is harder than it looks.....which is why barely anyone does it. And we like to windbag and scroll or have great geopolitical battles in pixellated form. And when it comes to physiological practice, one of the ways we can break the spell, it is harder still.
If you don't care about political outcomes enough to do something about it, learn the ropes and make it happen - why not just drop it? Choose something you do care about and live a genuinely vital life? Maybe you want to kite surf? Would you be willing to do that?
As I get older, the more I realise the folly of talking and theorising, what a powerful delusion it is. In fact, I posit that the whole issue with Western Civilisation is just this - and has been for many hundreds of years.
So what do we do about it?
Try to fix it with more talking and theorising? More edumuhcation or "raising awareness". Or some old models like religion? That’ll fixit willit.
Absurdities. You do something, or you don't. End of story.
