Ghey-I As Penultimate, Left-Brained, Literally Half-Witted Humanoid Folly
BreathWish Weekly Newsletter
(My apologies: this resend now contains the referenced Hoffman interview)
I offer here my simple take on AI because AI is so hot right now.
First, I draw your attention to this Donald Hoffman interview, in which he wastes the argument that this tool will consciously wake up and take over the world:
There are several mixups I've seen people make in this debate. The major one is "AI as a non-sentient tool vs AI as a true sentient consciousness with self-aware characteristics".
Some nerds argue that LLMs are sentient and require human rights.
But the truth is, like a calculator, these LLMs don't need sentience or "self-awareness" (a term riddled with misconception) to function.
This AI cannot be sentient because, as Hoffman says, sentience or self-consciousness doesn't arise from what we perceive as "dead matter", just as we do not originate from "dead matter".
Physicalism vs A New Science
Physicalism, the idea that all we see is all there is and there can indeed be a giant explanation for it all, is undoubtedly one of the great crimes of modern-day scientism.
It's also why contradictions and paradoxes arise in mathematics and other sciences. Our nervous systems are not products of dead, inert matter; what we see (Hoffman calls them “icons” - like on a desktop) around us is merely a derivation of our relatively limited nervous systems - nervous systems selected for survival and not much else. Not selected to know the total truth or to see reality in its completeness. What fun would that be, after all.
It's because of this that this AI cannot be sentient. Because, once again, the average scientist has wholly failed to grasp what the Buddha learned millennia ago - that our experience, particularly that of concepts and language, is not what gives rise to our awareness.
Nevertheless, there is obviously a danger, as with any technology. Given AI's abilities right now, one could see it being programmed into a military weapon or some kind or who knows what, in a weapons system etc. and due to its non-aligned properties, inserted by humans, it could get around controls and assert itself as a blunt force object, a complex lifeless cudgel.
Like Lord Indras’ mighty bronze cudgel with more decentralised independence and, therefore, more extraordinary abilities to get out of control and take many of us out.
I agree with Hoffman that potentially, within a new "non-physicalist" scientific process, science that is uncovering the geometric and fractal secrets of the system that undergirds the Darwinian iconography of the reality that we all perceive - that if this venture is possible, which it seems to be, that engineering a sentient AI could also be theoretically possible.
You could also potentially engineer elements of current AI's "abilities" into this engineered conscious-agent construct. But LLMs are not it. Because left-brain fags fundamentally don't comprehend that "I am wording therefore I exist" is a rather stupid statement from this particular angle.
Wordcels & Organic LLMs as the Enemies of Lif
As I've always said, the wordcel is the enemy of the greatness of life. This AI debate or fear is at its heart the confuddleing of wordcelery for vital life-consciousness. And rather exposes the worst excesses of left-brain hemispheric dominance.
It exposes the modern man as being unable to conceive of what he is outside of the tyranny of his left-brain dominance.
Therefore, any force that appears to replicate "how he sees himself" as a language-based being, a word-thought-being, must obviously, so obviously also be conscious. It’s just like me!
For the average person, who is entirely ignorant of the nature of conscious experience, AI's sentience is a serious concern or/ the second chapter in consciousness itself, with us as its herald.
The Insolence & Tyranny of Left-Brained Bureaucratisation
At the same time, I don't mean to diminish the achievement or the potential danger.
As we've seen with covid, we all know what our fetishisation of "left brain expertise" leads to.
The rather insolent arrogance of the left-brain shows tendencies to utterly deny reality, as we've seen - something Iain Mcgilchrist often refers to, as we have on the Bio-Individual podcast also. This primordially necessary tendency, one now wholly out of kilter, has been well established in split-brain patients.
The left brain often refuses to acknowledge reality, even when that less-than-stellar reality is presented right in front of its dumb optical-intake-cabling.
AI, or LLMs or whatever you want to call them, are potentially the species ultimate expression of the imbalance towards left-brain bureaucratisation.
It is the wet dream of those with an imbalanced left hemisphere cognitive process. It will, finally, they say, lead them to complete control of externalities "in ways we can barely comprehend" to "make life amazing for all". This is the often parroted promise of the optimistic, progressive left-brain experts.
The left brain is, of course, outrageously optimistic - this is another one of its rather loathsome characteristics (if out of control) because all progress, i.e. what it does or processes, is seen in overly optimistic terms.
Anyone who dissents "is simply getting in the way of the program", and as the consummate bureaucrat, such problematic types would be best removed. If we remove them, our drive to some kind of non-defined optimistic future can continue unabated, and all will be well.
This tendency is perhaps most disturbing in terms of how experts may utilise AI, to me at least. Not the programs themselves. This is what we should be thinking about.
Normgroids as Organic LLMs
There have been a number of rather funny tweets recently about how normies are language constructs like these AI’s, and that’s why they think it’s conscious.
I agree with this and have been asserting this for some time in my own way, coming from Zen, this is very very obvious. In fact, the bio-individual podcast is about tools that undo this tendency to no small degree.
Technically proficient people, who aren't stupid in an IQ sense….seem to be lacking something. We all know the types...they appear to us as being unable to think in a complete way; they come across as bots.
This is despite their being able to process technical tasks pretty competently. This is often to the frustration of IQCels.
"IF U HAV A RELATIVELY HIGH IQ HOW U STOOPID?"
Well, it's because they're left-brain dominant and have no contact with their oceanic right-brain intelligence.
Their base drives are entirely without any self-comprehension. The petty, mean biological drives we all have tend to be amplified by left-brain dominant Organic LLMs because they cannot see themselves or correctly contextualise themselves, a left-hemisphere attribute.
Despite being biological LLMs, they also exemplify the worst of humanity's baser instincts - a character irony often made fun of in our circles.
They are biological scumbot language constructs.
And as language constructs with a mistaken relationship with their bodies, lacking connection to the ocean of right-brained intelligence, they then tend to think their beloved chatbot is conscious. We can't missile strike data centres because it needs human rights, you see?
Human rights for all constructs of the left brain! Can you see what happens now? How all the identify nonsense...AI...experts - whatever it is - is nothing more than a common feature of a badly asymmetrical glorified chimp brain.
And well….they kind of are chatbots, I'm afraid.
We should always beware, however - because these tendencies are also extant in us. It's also helpful to view this characteristic of language-based conscious orientation as an imbalance of hemispheres towards left-brain thinking. We are all subject to this in no small degree, so while its funny and true about normoids, it also shouldn’t be forgotten that we are also victims of this in no small way.
Us & Them/s
I've always thought that what people in non-normgroid circles might possess, by accident or intent, is a better relationship or balance between the brain hemispheres.
This can occur due to environmental influence, taking up meditation, or simply by accident.
Such people are better able, as is the way with the right brain, to see significant patterns, feel and intuit them. Many in these circles are great artists and thinkers, which would result from my thesis here.
At the root of all genius, this process is in many ways the opposite of the credentialed rote learner, who, like an LLM, simply memorises lines of text and regurgitates them.
I remember travelling in Asia many decades ago, watching Chinese students learn, just repeat, regurge, repeat, regurge - with zero creative access or process.
I can see why many thinkers on the right consider the Han-Borg to be a significant threat. And why many academics and economists, and leaders in the West fetishise China as the ultimate example to replicate.
Bureaucrats are the ultimate victims of the left-brain. As the representatives of this neural architecture and process, they are always on the lookout for systems and ways to seek more and more control of what's "out there" and "just not fitting in with my language model, you see".
Because for them, as Organic LLMs, China represents the only way to extinguish the uncertainty of life. Economists, for example, love a dictatorship for this reason.
For them, knowledge is not organic; it's not in their blood or sinew. It's a memorised abstraction structure, which is why they keep getting us into trouble - they're imbalanced, and their brains are dysfunctional.
Any project based on these principles will fail under the weight of its own stupidity. Nature will not tolerate it for long.
What Will the Experts Unleash This Time…
It's a common experience for dissidents, or right-brained, or hemispherically balanced people that you want to stab your eyes out in frustration at how Organic LLMs can be so blatantly retarded, and adhere to full-blown idiocy-tier ideologies and thought streams. All in the face of overwhelming evidence that their ruling ideology and concept structure is nothing short of utterly retarded.
You look at the destruction something like immigration, the gain of function, or Mrna vax creates and their wholesale unthinking embrace of such things.
Now for anyone with a functional right-brain, it is plain to see how such ideologically driven policies are destroying everything good about Western nations. Nothing is redeeming about any of these things, no more than the results of some halfwit experts blockheaded reasoning, ink on a bit of paper transformed into noise.
From a dissident's perspective, you always ask, "How can this automaton freak possibly miss the consequences of his feel-good word salad?"
To an NPC or an Organic LLM - a left-brained abomination - the sacred authoritative parchment and the words thereupon are simply "progressive" and "logical". According to the various texts, they read, it's entirely correct, you see.
The experts of the official texts decreed it so for our optimistic futures. Now comply. Comply with expertise and everything will be fine, ok? Trust the Organic LLM experts.
I'm doing the right thing because I read x, and x says y is the right thing! A place for all people, living in harmony - this is what the x says!
If we obey, everything will be fine, the future bright.
And so it goes...like an LLM, the wicked creature regurgitates the texts and cliches to you.
I believe you could grab one of these people by the scruff of the neck and rub their hostile little faces into the results of their ideology for minutes at a time, force it into their flared nostrils, and they still wouldn't be able to acknowledge the truth.
Remember the story in our podcast on MacGilchrist, how a split-brain patient was shown an injury on their arm? They showed it to the left hemisphere and asked for a comment. As you'd imagine, the left brain said, "That's someone else's arm; it's not mine".
So, as I always say - words will not fix Organic LLMs. What balances the hemispheres is something entirely different - and it’s not just discourse. Because discourse, as most people use it, is merely one feature of left-brainism.
As is AI.
And who knows how the experts will unleash this blunt-force object. What we do know is that what happens will be completely unintended and unexpected, of course.
Note: No podcast this week - however we’ll be back next week.
This weeks meditation will up up tonight.
